Case Study — Private Commission

A Private French Estate

Aerial, Fine-Art & Provenance Documentation for a Confidential Sale

01 — The Challenge

The Weight of the House

A private client preparing the confidential sale of a historic French château needed a complete visual and auditory portfolio of both the estate and its contents — a property of significant scale paired with a collection of museum-grade artworks and antique furniture. The brief demanded three very different disciplines under a single production: cinematic aerial and ground coverage, fine-art photography precise enough for formal buyer evaluation; and a recorded oral history of the collection's provenance, captured directly from the owner.

02 — The Solution

Aloft and Afoot

The owners would lead a live, unrepeatable tour, and my kit and I had to keep up. It called for fluid command of capture, moving between handheld and remote gimbal work, bracketed exposures, macro detail, and ultra-wide high-resolution interior composites, without breaking stride. I ran a flexible, highly mobile loadout, placing every audio channel I could record to and leaning on sheer volume to guarantee coverage, while time-synced voice-tags mapped the maze of history, art, furniture, and a firm digression on exactly which copper pot Napoleon scorched his milk in.

Estate Discovery

Estate capture across air and ground: 5.4K DJI aerial discovery, panoramic HDR composites, and orthographic top-down mapping of the grounds, plus DJI Ronin–stabilized 6K open-gate interior and exterior walkthroughs — prioritizing previously unseen and rarely-accessed areas of the property.

Heritage Documentation

High-fidelity documentation of 80+ artworks and antique pieces — evaluation stills, environmental-ambiance compositions, and macro studies of gilt frames, fine textiles, and condition detail. The evaluation stills required meticulous color matching, perspective correction and compositing to remove unwanted objects and eliminate glare from fixed interior lighting.

Provenance Narrative

A dual-channel wireless lavalier session capturing roughly four hours of the owner and resident expert's oral history — the stories, origins, and provenance behind individual pieces in the collection. Preserved as a living document that travels with the assets, adding verifiable history and narrative depth for the buyer.

Post-Production & Workflow

Roughly 1,000 images reviewed and culled to a refined selection, with color-accurate retouching throughout. Web-optimized H.265/Rec.709 video delivery, plus a translated, appraisal-ready catalogue mockup built on a custom AI-OCR cataloguing workflow.

03 — The results

Heritage, Catalogued

The result is the discretion and convenience of a single operator with the output of a full team. It spans the exquisite detail of gilt frames and antique tapestries, newly revealed through 0.5x macro work, to the furthest corner of the 150-acre estate. The package delivered a gallery-quality art catalogue with precision evaluation-grade stills for buyer assessment, a cinematic interior reel, sweeping discovery sequences of the grounds, a color-graded edit of the château itself, and a deep library of stills including wide HDR panoramas.
