My real education didn’t happen in a classroom. It was earned in moments of intense focus in surreal locales, whether getting hopelessly lost on a bicycle in the monsoon-flooded streets of Kathmandu, paddling a sea kayak against ten-foot swells in a wide-open Alaskan sound, or maneuvering a beat-up Land Cruiser around a river crossing rigged with explosives in the Afghan countryside.

It was a life of profound juxtaposition. I would move between two realities: one night, sharing stories with Afghan actors in the timeless quiet of Herat’s city square, surrounded by the beauty and hardship of a world etched with the raw complexities of geopolitics and survival. The next, I’d be back in suburban America, re-adjusting to conversations about football scores and stories about spring break in Cabo. 

That jarring shift was the most eye-opening frontier I ever crossed. It instilled in me a deep-seated drive: not just to see the world, but to find ways to bridge the profound gaps in understanding that divide it. 

It’s a belief that to make any connection—from a UNICEF child safety campaign in Egypt to a digital ad campaign for a startup in San Francisco—one must first bridge the gap in cultural context and shared familiarity. 

This background has shaped me into a Hybrid Creative, a practical reality defined by a versatile toolkit born of necessity. It means I’ve had to become a photographer, a strategist, a video editor, and a tech fluent problem solver, using every available tool to translate a vision, connect with an audience, and deliver a polished final product.
